World Mental Health Day: Educational resources for your Clients and their employees
Read time: 2 minutes
October 10 is World Mental Health Day. Mental health continues to be a key factor in creating a supportive and productive workplace. It’s essential for both your Clients and their employees to be well equipped to navigate the challenges related to mental health in the workplace. Here are some helpful materials you can share with your Clients.
This year’s official theme is “Access to services- mental health in catastrophes and emergencies”. It strongly aligns with our new research report How climate and extreme weather are impacting workplace health in Canada: creating a climate-resilient workforce with group benefits. One of the most significant effects of catastrophic events, such as wild fires or flooding, is on human health. This includes mental health effects that may impact productivity at work. We’d like to remind our Clients and their people leaders that there are many resources available to help them address mental health issues in the workforce.
Mental health training for people leaders in the workplace
- Training videos for managers – a series of five videos that covers the following topics:
- Psychologically safe workplaces
- Mental health warning signs
- Managing absenteeism
- Managing conflict
- Employee behaviour and accountability
- Manager Mental Health training booklet – an additional resource to the training videos for managers.
- General mental health education – a series of three videos that provides tips and resources that you can share with all your employees (managers and individual contributors).
Additional resources
- Our guide Supporting your mental health and well-being – a concise guide for supporting plan members and their dependents’ mental health. It also outlines solutions available in benefits plans.
- Our Bright Paper report Mental health in the workplace: a little training goes a long way – a document that discusses the importance of mental health training for managers in the workplace. It highlights how early intervention can prevent more serious issues and reduce disability costs.
