Helping you support your Clients in meeting plan members’ savings needs
Planning for retirement is important, but it’s often just one of many financial priorities. In September, we introduced new way for plan members to plan and save for short-term goals alongside their retirement goals through the Retirement Planner. This gives you another way to help your Clients support a broader range of their plan members’ financial needs.
What’s new
Plan members can now set a short-term savings goal on their own directly from the Retirement Planner, making it easier to plan for moments that matter such as a vacation, car purchase or home renovation. Previously, they could only set-up short-term goals through 360 Plan Advice.
Short-term goals will be supported through savings products designed for shorter-term financial needs, helping keep these savings separate from retirement-focused products.
What does this mean for plan members?
- Plan for multiple financial priorities — Save toward up to three major short-term expenses while continuing to focus on retirement. Add, edit or delete goals as circumstances change.
- Set short-term goals independently — Create and manage short-term goals on their own directly through the Quick Planner.
- See their progress in one place — Easily monitor their goals, savings strategy and progress toward their target.
- Get a more connected view of their savings — Better understand how their short- and long-term financial goals fit together.
How assumptions are applied
Short-term goals use the same base assumptions as retirement goals, including rates of return, inflation and risk tolerance. These assumptions are updated annually in line with FP Canada™ guidelines and are available to plan members whenever they access the tool.
What this means for your Clients
The enhanced Retirement Planner gives plan members more tools to take an active role in their financial planning. By supporting both retirement and shorter-term savings priorities in one place, plan sponsors can offer a more comprehensive savings experience through their workplace savings plan. This can further help you support your Clients in addressing their plan members’ diverse savings needs.
