New digital enhancements for plan members

April 23, 2026

Introducing two important enhancements to the digital experience for plan. These updates are designed to help empower plan members to save for their financial well-being, make it easier to manage their retirement savings, and strengthen the protection of their assets.

Removal of online contribution limits and introduction of temporary withdrawal restrictions

As of March 29, 2026:

  • The $20,000 transaction limit for online one-time contributions has been removed.
  • Withdrawals following large online contributions may be restricted until the funds have cleared from the plan member’s bank account (typically up to five business days).

Key details:

  • This change applies to one-time contributions submitted via mysunlife.ca and my Sun Life mobile app.
  • Withdrawal restrictions automatically lift after five business days. Sun Life can waive restrictions prematurely for exceptional circumstances.
  • During this five-day restriction period, withdrawals cannot be requested via mysunlife.ca but can be processed through other service channels if required.
  • Confirmation emails will now be sent once a plan member completes a one-time or recurring contribution.

Benefits:

  • Easier to do business: Removes barriers for plan members who wish to make larger contributions.
  • Increased flexibility: Plan members can contribute amounts exceeding $20,000 online (subject to legislative limits).
  • Risk mitigation and asset protection: Helps safeguard plan members accounts against potential fraudulent behavior.
  • Automated controls: Restrictions apply and lift automatically, with no plan member action required.

Consolidated contributions experience

On January 25, 2026, we also launched a newly redesigned, consolidated contribution experience on mysunlife.ca.

What’s changed?

  • We've consolidated the one-time and recurring contribution flows into a single, modern experience, making it easier for plan members to contribute to their plans.
  • The new flow has been fully redesigned to provide clear guidance throughout the journey and to align with our modern design system.

If no investment instructions are on file, plan member’s contributions will be invested in the default fund.
