Addition of the Fiera Canadian Equity Segregated Fund to the Core investment platform

July 02, 2026

Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether this investment news has any implications for the investment options available within their plans. Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada purchases units of the fund listed below, which is established as a segregated fund in accordance with the Insurance Companies Act (Canada).

We’re pleased to announce the addition of the Fiera Canadian Equity Segregated Fund (the Fund) to the Core investment platform. The Fund is Fiera Capital Corporation’s (Fiera) flagship Canadian Equity offering.

The Fund is managed by Fiera’s Canadian Large Cap Team. The portfolio management team consists of: lead Portfolio Manager (PM) Nessim Mansoor, and co-PMs Nicholas Smart and Tony Rizzi. Mansoor, Smart and Rizzi worked together at Empire Life before joined Fiera over ten years ago. They are a well-resourced, dedicated team of investment professionals that spend 100% of their time managing Canadian Large Cap focused mandates at Fiera (approximately $16 billion).  The team has been stable with no reported departures over the past five years.

Fiera describes its style as High Quality at Attractive Valuations. More traditionally, the Fund’s style is Growth at a Reasonable Price (GARP). The investment team believes it can build wealth at a superior rate by investing in high quality and attractively valued businesses, and by emphasizing capital preservation through a disciplined, intrinsic value methodology. The Fund uses a fundamental bottom-up process with a focus on absolute returns, which can lead to significant deviations from index stock and sector weights and higher active risk. The Fund’s inception was in January 2013.

The Fund is managed within the following guidelines:

  • Benchmark: S&P/TSX Composite
  • Canadian Equities: minimum 90% / maximum 100%.
  • Cash: maximum 10% (the maturity for permitted securities must not exceed one year).
  • Sector diversification: Minimum 6 sectors of the S&P/TSX Composite.
  • Issuer diversification: A maximum of 10% of the value of the Fund may be invested per issuer. Issuers with market capitalization of less than the weighted average market cap of the S&P/TSX SmallCap Index shall not account for more than 15% of the value of the Fund.
  • Number of holdings: Generally, between 25 to 45 holdings (33 holdings as of March 31, 2026).
  • Off benchmark exposure: A maximum of 10% of the value of the Fund may be invested in securities outside the S&P/TSX Composite.
  • The use of leverage and derivatives is not permitted within the strategy.

The addition of the Fund represents Sun Life’s commitment to offer plan sponsors and members with diverse investment options. In this case, the Fund provides additional options on our platform, as some Canadian Equity funds recently closed to new clients to control capacity.

You will be able to find more information about the Fund by accessing the Morningstar section of the plan sponsor web site.
